Outreach Opportunities
Let the museum come to you! Outreach programs can introduce a topic or supplement your curriculum. Outreach programs are great presentations for schools or group gatherings. Additionally, they address the Pennsylvania Academic Standards. A distance fee will be assessed beyond a 25 mile radius of the museum.

StarLab (Maximum of 20 - 25 students)
The StarLab consists of an inflatable dome, a portable planetary projector, and numerous projection cylinders for displaying different scenes on the inside of the dome. (Ceiling requirement is 10.5 feet)

  • Follow the Drinking Gourd
Learn how African-American families in the 1800's were able to escape north to freedom using the secret lyrics of a song and the Big Dipper as their guide. After the program, students will be taken on a tour of the winter constellations and planets.

  • Night Sky Tour
During this program you will learn how to identify stars and constellations of the night sky.

  • Daughter of the Stars
This presentation teaches students about many constellations visible in the night sky, including Ursa Major, the Great Bear Corona Borealis, and the Northern Crown. For each constellation a Native American myth is told, supplemented with visual images, to bring to life the imaginative perspectives other cultures felt for the stars.

  • Lewis and Clark (September 2003)
The Celestial Navigation of Lewis and Clark: how they knew where they were when they were in the middle of nowhere is our new program. Can you find your way at night without roads, street lights, signs or maps? Learn how Lewis and Clark did it.
