Mars Madness: Becoming a Martian Scientist

Date: June 18-22

Time: 9 am - 3:30 pm

Age: 11-14 years

Get ready to blast off to Mars!  Join Cosmic Mike for a week long summer camp revolving around the Red Planet and the Mars Science Laboratory mission, featuring Curiosity, the most advanced rover ever to go to Mars.

Last November, Cosmic Mike attended NASA's National Mars Education Conference at NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The conference provided him with newly created activities that will be featured and used to train campers to become a Martian scientist.

Campers will plan a mission to Mars, launch a rocket, select a landing site, build and test a Mars egg-drop vehicle, analyze chemical composition of rocks, and interpret real images of the Martian surface.  Activities are standards-aligned and STEM-related. Get ready for an astronomical adventure that is sure to inspire "Curiosity" about Earth's closest planetary neighbor.

Biotech Boot Camp

Date: June 25-29

Time: 10 am - 3 pm

Age Recommendation: 11-14 years, maximum group size 12

Get ready for a workout - for the brain!  This camp features visits to the laboratories of local scientists and businesses who work in the dynamic field of biotechnology.  From DNA extraction and sequencing, to applied nanotechnology and environmental chemistry, experience cutting edge science from the experts!

Cost: 

$200 for North Museum members
$225 for non-members
