PoP SCIENCE - PORTAL TO THE PUBLIC
The North Museum’s PoP Science programs are made possible due to Museum’s involvement in the National Science Foundation’s Portal to the Public grant. The goal of Portal to the Public is to increase face-to-face interactions between area scientists and the public. The local partners for this grant are Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster General Hospital, Millersville University and the North Museum.
Little Changes, Big Difference - February 27
Change is good. Or is it? The North Museum's PoP Science event on February 27 brought together researchers who work in a variety of areas related to the processes of change over time. Visitors had the opportunity to meet biologists and earth scientists who will share their expertise and present activities based on their research in how organisms and our environment change and adapt over time.
Activities throughout the museum included:
Dr. Mark Olson (F&M College)- Hiding from Predators - An example of Natural Selection
Dr. Yuan Zhong and Michael Parker (Millersville University) - Little Changes in DNA can make a Big Difference
John Smith (Millersville University) - Microorganisms can be Fast Learners!
Drs. Lynn Marquez and Charlie Scharnberger (Millersville University) - How did geologists in Darwin’s time begin to understand the age of the Earth?
