Family Fitness Workshops

Come join us for some fitness fun as we'll feature an active, fun, fitness related activity in our planetarium.  Many of our Family Fitness Workshops will feature outside organizations that are partnering with us throughout the duration of our new exhibition Eat Well, Play Well.  Schedule is subject to change.

Family Fitness Workshops are included with general museum admission.

Last Day for Eat Well, Play Well exhibition

RACE: Are We So Different?   
A new exhibition opening June 7


Investigate human variation through the framework of science, history and lived experience. Learn about misconceptions of race, how human variation has shaped our culture and what the future holds for our society. Presented in collaboration with the Lancaster YWCA.

STEAM: Back to the Future Summer Science Camp

Date: June 16-20
Time: 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Ages: 10-13

Travel through time and discover how the STEAM phenomenon began and what the future holds in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.  Compare the computers of yesterday and today, and discover how STEAM has influenced chocolate. Learn about nanotechnology and why it will influence all aspects of our lives in the future, experiment with robots, and create your own futuristic inventions.

Explosive Science with Darryl Baynes Summer Camp

Date: June 23-27
Time: 9:00 am to 3:30 pm or 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
Ages: 10-14

Unleash your inner mad scientist with a week of hair-raising fun.  Each day campers will explore a different science topic, including rocketry, chemistry, and physics and will also receive a special guided look at our exhibit RACE: Are We So Different?  Master educator Darryl Baynes is back by popular demand bringing his own life experience as an African American inspired by science.  He encourages students to make their mark on the world of science by incorporating historic and lesser-known contributions of women and minorities into his programs.

Cosmic Mike®'s Mission to the Red Planet Summer Camp

Date: July 21-25
Time: 9:00 am to 3:30 pm
Ages: 10-13

Get ready to blast off to Mars with the North Museum!  Join Cosmic Mike®, Senior Astronomy Educator, for a week-long summer camp as we explore the Red Planet, the Mars Science laboratory mission and Curiosity - the most advanced rover ever to go to Mars.

Campers will plan a mission to Mars, launch a rocket, select a landing site, build and test a Mars egg-drop vehicle.  All activities are PA education standards aligned and STEM-related.

You won' want to miss this astronomical adventure that is sure to inspire "curiosity" about Earth's closest planetary neighbor.
