Public Viewing Event of NASA's Orion Test Launch
Thursday, December 4, 6:30 am - 12:30 pm

Join the North Museum and Cosmic Mike® for a historic event paving the way for a new era in human spaceflight as Orion soars through space on Exploration Flight Test-1. Orion launches with America’s new rocket, NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS). In 2017 the SLS will send a crew and cargo back into space and in the future on deep-space missions as far as Mars.

Doors will open at 6:30 a.m. at our temporary location called Nano North, as our main building is under renovations. Come early as the launch is currently scheduled for 7:05 a.m. EST and we'll have free giveaways courtesy of NASA.  We will continue to provide live coverage of the test launch up through the time the Orion capsule splashes down in the Pacific Ocean approximately 11:30 a.m. EST.

From 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. the North Museum's preschool program Read, Touch and Discover will be incorporated into this special event featuring Astronauts, Rockets and More and the book Mousetronaut written by retired NASA astronaut Commander Mark Kelly.

Read, Touch & Discover encourages young children to explore their world through stories, museum touchables, crafts, singing, movement and more. An adult is required and older siblings are welcome. Recommended for ages 3 – 6.  Due to space limitations, registration for Read, Touch and Discover is recommended.

Date and time of launch is subject to change via NASA.  For more information about the test launch visit http://exploredeepspace.com/
