The Maya 2012 Phenomenon: An Examination of the Motivations Behind the Creation of a Doomsday Event
Time: 2:00 PM

Curious about the rumors of the Mayan calendar predicting that the world will end on December 21, 2012? Join Franklin & Marshall College's Sonja Schwake as she examines why humans have repeatedly created Doomsday Prophecies, with specific reference to the current Maya 2012 "end of the world" phenomenon. What does the date of December 21, 2012 actually signify? What did it signify to the Ancient Maya? And, what significance does it hold for us today? This talk attempts to answer some of these questions, with a special emphasis on why this event has become such a big deal at this moment in time.

Consider viewing our newest planetarium show 2012: Ancient Skies, Ancient Mysteries, which focuses on the topic. Showtime is at 1:00 p.m.
